no more speech

well we had another speech session wed. but we will no longer be going. after talking with the SLP, it is just not something that will be helpful for kinsley. her actual eating of food is fine it is the drinking that is the problem and all we can do for that is thicken the liquids and wait. i am glad we did the few sessions that we did so we know more about what is going on and that her oral motor development is good. so we will go back in a few months for another swallow study and see what happens with that.

toledo visit

we went to toledo this past weekend to finally do christmas with miss vayda!! we also took the time to see the great grandparents.

gym, swim!

we have been doing swim lessons and gymnastics with kinsley for a few weeks now. she loves them both and i think she is doing very well!

here she is in the water, the picks of me will not be blogged so sorry you won;t see much of swimming!!!! but she will lay on her back try to kick, jump right into the water, or should i say walk right into the water! she doesn't mind going under and we are working hard on blowing bubbles. aunt mel came with last week to take pics, but the viewing room doesn't allow for the best pics...oh well!


playing at gym. basically gymnastics is a free for all. i am exhausted by the end. kinsley has a good time so we will finish out the session but not sign up again.


just a random. kinsley and stella looking out the window waiting for the 5 stray cats we have visit on a daily basis. kinsley goes crazy and pounds the window screaming "cat, cat, cat" when she sees them. i love it!!!! but it proves we need a dog!!!!!!

GI appt

we had a good GI appointment today. after telling kinsley's whole history and answering lots of other questions that the doctor had she said she feels like her valve muscle that closes off her stomach is just weak and so the food is able to come back up. she said most children out grow that by 15 months but some will take till 2 yrs. she doe snot think there is any internal damage done since kinsley does not cry when she throws up so she doesn't think any further testing is necessary, which is great news. i was worried about the acid causing internal throat damage that we wouldn't know about. so for now we are on an as needed basis with her, if things start getting worse or if kinsley starts getting fussier or crying when throwing up she wants us to cal her other then that we just wait till she grows out of it. there is a medicine we could use but since there is no harm happening i would rather not start meds that would be trial and error anyways to see if they worked and then when to stop them would be another trial. so we didn't think we needed to do that.

she also told us we were in the right place going to speech for the swallowing issues, so that was nice to hear.

so to sum up our little kinsley, she has slow developing muscles it seems!!! but she does seem to catch up which is good. i am alot less worried now knowing that the throwing up is happening for a reason but a mild one and it should go away. and of course no harm has been done which is great news too.

HMG

we had 2 HMG meetings on friday. the first with our service coordinator and the second with the home based teacher. the SC came out to renew kinsley's IFSP. so it was a quick easy meeting and kinsley just loves her so it is always nice to see her. we just updated her goals, basically changing most from movement goals that were made back when the left side was still behind to new eating goals to work on with the therapists. the home based teacher came out because Kinsley finally got picked up for home services. so she will be coming out 1-2 times a month and an OT and SLP will also be visiting us to do an evaluation and then possibly more therapy here at home. it is nice that everything is finally starting up for her.

also exciting is that her GI appt got moved up to tomorrow. it was going to be in march but there was a cancellation so we got moved!!! so we will see what they have to say tomorrow.

speech

kinsley will be starting speech next week. not real sure what they will be doing but i am interested in finding out. i know we are going to the therapist that works with kids with feeding issues so she should have alot to offer. we will keep you posted.
